The LKC Jaguars
proved they are ready to play any team in the world when they marginally lost
to the Botswana Rugby Union “A” Division Runners-up, The Canon Jaguars Rugby
Club, by 7 - 10 on Saturday the 30th of January 2016.
The boys in Black and White registered their intentions to frustrate their senior club when they challenged them through their passionate war-cry. The Haka is the most feared war-cry in Botswana Schoolboy Rugby and always sends shivers down the opposition spines.

The first half
started with the Canon Jaguars taking the game into the LKC Jaguars’
half. The Canon Jaguars were palpably confident and played
with complacency. However from the get go, the LKC Jaguars were determined to
defend their territory at all costs. The boys showed ordacious organisation
with their forwards defending their lines. Man of the match and scrum-half Mpho
Yezo was in no-nonsense mood and marshalled his forwards well, clinically
distributed the ball from all breakdowns to give advantage to the LKC Jaguars.
Towards the end of the first half, the Canon Jaguars Nigerian new boy Stan Chikuma,
stunned the LKC Jaguars when he broke at the right wing to force the first try
of the day. Thabang Moepi converted and gave the Canon Jaguars 7points
advantage
Second half
started with both teams making tactical changes in all departments. The
introduction of Taku Mhonda as fly-half for the Canon Jaguars changed
the texture of the game as he kicked to touch everytime to force the LKC Jaguars
back into their 22. This did not stop the LKC Jaguars who in the 56th
minute from a line-out broke with the inside centre Dotshe Tsheko breaking the Canon Jaguars defence to
give his team a well-deserved 5points. Lone Rakata converted to level the
scoreline.
Towards the end of
the game, prop Thapelo Morei was penalised for contesting for the ball without
supporting his weight. The Canon Jaguars converted to give their team a
3-point advantage.
Canon Jaguars Coach, Taku Mhonda congratulated his
men for winning the game but lamented the teams’ fitness level which he said
weighed against his team. “The LKC Jaguars were obviously fitter than our men
and therefore took advantage by swinging the ball which tired our men. This is
our first game before the start of the season and will help us work on the
fitness of the club” he said.
Dent Patrick, the
LKC rugby Coach praised his charges for taking the game to them. Our boys
defied size, experience and age to give a lesson to their seniors. I am proud
of them. They have passion, and my hope is that in Wales they will show the
same determination.
The LKC Jaguars
and Canon Jaguars Manager,
Feddy Mutenheri commdended both teams for their efforts. He said today’s game
will help both the teams to work on their shortfalls and to strengthen their
strong departments. “Today was a showcase of the prowess of Jaguars Rugby brand.
LKC Jaguars are the nursery for the Canon Jaguars Club and I am impressed by the
talent we have and this promises a brighter future for Canon Jaguars club.
